Festi’Terroir 2023: nearly 15,000 people discovering organic production and direct sales | City of Geneva

Festi’Terroir has for objective to introduce city dwellers to food artisans and farmers active in Geneva. But not only that: the event aims in particular to highlight those who practice direct sales (at the farm, in grocery stores or via baskets), who cultivate links with “eaters” and who pay great attention to ecology. A significant proportion of the producers present are thus labeled ORGANIC.

“The festival is a rare opportunity to meet and exchange between our different trades, at all levels of production, processing and distribution“, explains Sophie Hodel, goat breeder in La Touvière. “For example this weekend, we were able to strengthen our ties with the La Fève grocery store in Meyrin”.

Come once a year Festi’Terroirthat’s good, but where do you find these products the rest of the year? The producers present have the opportunity to inform potential customers about their different distribution channels. Grocery stores like Le Nid, l’Arcade or la Fève, farm shops, markets or even weekly baskets, so many ways to find these products at any time. “Our goat’s cheeses can also be found on the menu of around fifteen restaurants in Geneva”, comments Sophie Hodel.

When taking the pulse of the merchants in the aisle, one concern often comes up: “Contact with the population is extremely appreciated and presence at Festi’Terroir is very important, but to sustain our businesses, it is essential that consumers -trice-s buy local products throughout the year. There are many options for obtaining local foodstuffs,” says Guillaume Lambert, head of Espace Terroir and Jardins de Charrot. In this regard, the City of Geneva identifies the best addresses for obtaining direct-sale and/or organic products in a directory which allows you to find it at a glance. It was widely distributed over the weekend.

    Links with catering

Links with catering are also essential, and not just for the plate. Supplier and producer of artisanal and local drinks at La Genevoise du Terroir, Thierry Desbaillet also comes to Festi’Terroir to meet professionals: “Except for wine, local juices, syrups and lemonades are still rarely on the menu. of restoration. However, we can provide the whole range from breakfast to aperitif”.

While waiting to see their order books grow after the weekend’s full of contacts, most stands were able to sell their goods and often with some success. The Boulangerie de Peney, for example, sold almost a ton of bread in two days. “The City of Geneva is delighted with the success of this weekend, the link created between city and countryside, as well as synergies generated between the different actors and actresses of sustainable food. She will continue to promote local products as part of her “Feed the city” and his “Climate strategy», notes Alfonso Gomez, Mayor.

Festi’Terroir is also an example in terms of waste management. There dishes used are fully washable, without instructions. In total, nearly 30,000 units of crockery will have been circulated over the three days, with the precious support of the young people from the Boite à Boulots who carry out the sorting.

Coordinated by the City of Geneva, this annual event is the result of collaboration between theBio Geneva associationL’Office for the Promotion of Agricultural Products of Geneva (Genève Terroir) and the City of Geneva.
