Public consultation on the links between your health and the environment: give your opinion!

    What is NEHAP?

Awareness of the reciprocal interaction between the environment and health is not new. Already in 1994, Member States of WHO-Europe were encouraged to develop National Environment-Health Action Plans.

In our country, the cooperation agreement forming the legislative basis of the NEHAP (National Environment-Health Action Plan) was approved on December 10, 2003. This establishes the framework for collaboration between the federal government, the Communities and the Regions concerning environmental and health policy areas.

    NEHAP3: responding to today’s challenges

This third edition of the NEHAP, which will be implemented between the end of 2023 and 2029, focuses on 2 priority themes, namely: resilience, adaptation and the fight against climate change on the one hand and the reduction of the harmful effects of chemical substances. on human health and the environment on the other hand. It thus integrates new areas of intervention that respond to urgent societal challenges. In total, the NEHAP focuses on 8 distinct areas of action for which the reciprocal interaction between health and the environment is central. It is indeed essential to tackle the impact of the environment on health, just like the impact of our health system on the environment: the WHO indicates that 24% of mortality worldwide is attributable to environmental factors on which we can act!

Nine weeks to give your opinion

Public consultation on NEHAP3 will take place from August 16 to October 15, 2023 inclusive. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of health and environment policies. Citizen participation is indeed essential if we want to guarantee that the NEHAP3 reflects the needs and aspirations of all.

Citizens can submit their comments via this website.

Note: the NAPED (the national plan on endocrine disruptors), which is also part of the NEHAP3, has already been the subject of a separate public consultation and is therefore not included in the NEHAP3 consultation.
