Currently meeting as part of its 94th session, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child officially launched in Geneva on Monday September 18, 2023, General Comment No. 26 on children’s rights and the environment, with emphasis on climate change.
To mark its commitment in the field of children’s rights, the City of Geneva has decided to join the work of Committee on the Rights of the Child, of Land of men and committed partners, to proceed in the courtyard of the Cropettes schoolto one symbolic planting bringing together UN figures, local authorities and expert child advisors, representing several countries around the world.
Organized by Land of men, Child Rights Connect And the City of Genevathe event brought together children from the canton of Geneva and others from further afield who participated in the development of the document. A symbolic moment sharing and exchange on the environmental theme.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Childcomposed of independent experts responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, published its “General Comment Number 26” related to climate change.
To meet the demands of children looking to hold governments accountable to respect the right of children to a healthy environmentthe Committee decided to involve children on an international scale.
For this, more than 16,000 children from 103 countries were consulted. A global mobilization and a remarkable advance in terms of child participation, a central theme in the policy of Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity of the City of Geneva.
