Children’s Christmas Market | City of Geneva

Giving toys a new lease of life

Every year at the beginning of December, Bastions Park hosts a Christmas market specially dedicated to childrenorganized both by and for them.

Since 2007, this event has brought primary school pupils together in the Escalade heated marqueeoffering them a unique opportunity to give their books, toys and other games they no longer use a new lease of life.

At home, before the market starts, the children will take out their toys and games that are still in good condition before bringing them to marquee on the given day at 1.15 p.m.. The staff of the Schools Service will welcome the young stall holders and take them to their allotted place (no prior registration required).

The market will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.and everyone is welcome to come and buy books, board games, dolls, building toys and numerous other treasures at very reasonable prices.

In the run-up to Christmas, the Christmas Market by and for children offers a perfect opportunity to make the younger generations aware of the value of things and to consider a more responsible means of consuming. At the end of the market, anything unsold items which the children don’t want to take back home will be donated to the Caritas associationwhich works day in day out to create a society characterized by solidarity and will be on-hand at the market to explain its role and actions to the public.
