The mandate of the current co-direction assumed by Barbara Giongo and Nataly Sugnaux Hernandezrewarded with a Swiss Performing Arts Prize 2023, coming to an end, the City of Geneva had to submit the competition for the direction of Grütli Theater, institution dedicated to the local scene and the promotion of its artists and companies.
At the end of the three-round procedure, the commission’s evaluation unanimously identified the file brought by Mr. Eric Devanthéry as the best candidate to direct the theater from 2024 to 2027. This mandate is renewable once for three new seasons.

The commission notably highlights a project clearly focused on theatrical plurality. This cultivates strong enthusiasm and an ability to unite around support for artists and Geneva companieswhile paying real attention to audience development. The project integrates accessibility issues, as well as environmental and social issues.
Pop Up!
This desire to reach out to the public will materialize in particular with extramural projects called “Pop Up”, which will occasionally take the theater out of its walls. Proposals which are part of a very concrete reflection on the role of the Théâtre du Grütli in Geneva and the need to creatively approach new audiences.
