THE Töpffer Comics Prize have been presented since 1997 in Geneva, in homage to the Genevan Rodolphe Töpffer, considered the inventor of the 9th art. Each year, three prizes are awarded to comic book artists.
The Töpffer Grand Prix
THE Topffer Grand Prix honors a French-speaking comic book artist or one translated into French for all of their work given the importance of their contribution to contemporary comics. This year it rewards Israeli illustrator Rutu Modan in particular for the strength of her graphic and narrative universe.
Töpffer Prize Geneva
THE Töpffer Prize Geneva 2023which rewards the best album published by a Genevan or a Genevan in 2023 is assigned to Yannis La Macchia for “Naturally”published by Atrabile for the resolutely contemporary aspect of the subject and the decor created.
Töpffer Prize for Young Comics
THE Töpffer Prize for Young Comics 2023which supports the local talent and rewards the project of an author aged 15 to 30is handed over to Enzo Guillaume for “Pebbles grow in the ground” for which the jury notes the incredible vitality of the line.
Jury 2023
As part of this 2023 edition, the selection jury is composed as follows: Sarah Andrew (winner of the Töpffer Geneva Prize 2022), Helene Becquelin (comic book author), Patrick Fuchs (dean of the Higher School of Comics and Illustration), Anne-Hélène Hoog (director of the Angoulême Comics Museum), Leticia Ramos (manager of the Cumulus specialized bookstore), Diana Vlasa (winner of the 2022 Young Comics Prize), as well as, for the benefit of consultative voices, Guillaume Renevey (cantonal office of culture and sport) and Frédéric Sardet (director of the Geneva Library).
