    Section of the Urban Greenway: winner of parallel study mandates | City of Geneva

    With this parallel study mandate (MEP), the City of Geneva wishes to answer the following question: How to insert the Urban Greenway (VVA) into a rapidly changing sector, understood as a linear urban park, supporting social ties and amenities, active and contemplative uses, while enhancing the singularity of the existing landscape and the natural environment?

    The Winner of the parallel study mandates

    Chosen by majority, this is the project LINE OF LIFE from a Swiss multidisciplinary team, which was chosen following a jury organized by the City of Geneva.

    The latter is managed by the Ticino office officina del paesaggio Sagl made up of landscape architects, in association with the engineering office Ingéni SA Genève Carouge and the mobility engineering offices UrbanMoving Ingénierie Sàrl & Ways génierie Sàrl.

    A poetic vision to re-enchant nature

    LINE OF LIFE was able to seduce the college of experts by proposing a project which highlights the human at the heart of a fragile and enchanting nature, in a balanced way. This bias offers differentiated public spaceswith varied uses and atmospheres, combining intimate and calm places – almost “secret” – with larger spaces facilitating meetings.

    This new public space will be user-friendly, both in terms of its uses, its functions and its attractiveness. It will harmoniously welcome the different users – local residents, pedestrians, walkers, cyclists – in their rhythms, their temporalities, their speeds and their purposes.

    Cyclists in a hurry will be invited to use the neighborhood’s network of cycle paths, thanks to strong routes – existing or future – located on the outskirts of the park.

    Connection to Greenways

    To reach the Bois de la Bâtie, the project proposes to offer a complete and autonomous space, thought of as a whole, with the installation of a double elevator which allows the impact on the forest and the viaduct to be reduced to a minimum:

    • a first elevator will provide access to the urban area greenway in the direction of Saint-Jean on the Jonction bridge;
    • a second elevator placed near the railway tunnel will allow you to reach the top of the Bois de la Bâtie.
