“Coffee with an officer”: the municipal police invite Genevans after work | City of Geneva

The objective remains the same: promote direct dialogue between residents and agents from their neighborhoods about their security needs, ask questions and discuss the different missions of the municipal police or simply build relationships of trust.

For the third time, the municipal police officers of the City of Geneva invite residents of their neighborhoods to come and share tea, coffee or fruit juice in a pleasant setting.

The goal is to take the pulse of the sector through informal exchanges and also break down some prejudices. For the population, these interviews are an opportunity to discuss security concerns, ask questions and discuss the daily missions of the municipal policesuch as prevention against street harassment, processing of citizen requests, presence – preventive or repressive – in the heart of neighborhoods.

“It is very important that the municipal police go out to meet people, this strengthens the bond of trust between the population and its local police,” recalls administrative councilor Marie Barbey-Chpuis, in charge of the Department of Security and sports of the City of Geneva.

    Strengthen local ties

Previous editions have demonstrated the usefulness of these casual meetings to facilitate dialogue, thus contributing to strengthen local ties. “Some residents are more inclined to meet an officer in a café rather than at the police station,” explains Christine Camp, Commander of the municipal police.

At the time of “after work”, this new edition will also allow us to meet a different audience in order to raise awareness of security themes recurring at regular intervals in a neighborhood, such as “littering”, noise or road safety, for example.
