    With a view to an inclusive and sustainable society, the City of Geneva has been committed for many years against violence and discrimination based on sexual and emotional orientation, gender identity and expression and sex characteristics.

    It works for the promotion and respect for fundamental human rights lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and other sexual and gender minority (LGBTIQ+) people in its territory and beyond.

    On July 22, 2020, the Administrative Council adopted a new LGBTIQ+ municipal strategy. Declined in 7 main axes and 23 priority objectivesit supervises current and future actions, both externally and internally of the municipal administration, until 2030 and strengthens their coordination and monitoring, placed under the responsibility of the Agenda 21 Service – Sustainable City.

    More particularly, the second axis of this strategy “Specifically support vulnerable groups” aims to identify vulnerabilities specific to certain groups within LGBTIQ+ communities.

    Special needs

    In a context where more and more people, particularly young people, dare to reveal themselves as trans, non-binary, queer or intersex, needs for support and specific support for these people are increasedas well as measures to raise awareness of the general public and training of professionals, in order to enable them to better understand and understand these issues.

    Among LGBTIQ+ populations, trans, non-binary and intersex people are particularly vulnerable and discriminated against. The discrimination, violence and rejection they may face have a major impact on their daily lives. They experience more discrimination, particularly in the professional and medical environment. Their fundamental rights are insufficiently protected: right to self-determination and right to access to information, to name but a few. They are more likely to suffer suffering and strong pressures in our society designed and constructed in a binary way. These particularly vulnerable populations require special attention and have specific needs.

    There Ville already supports associative projects specifically dedicated to trans and non-binary populations. It thus supports, in particular, the Trans* pole of theAssociation 360THE Shelter GenevaL’Epicène associationTHE Transfreeshop of Geneva Health Group and the program on the non-binarity of Spielact festival.

    With this new awareness and community empowerment program, the City of Geneva strengthens its action. It thus reaffirms its support for self-determination, the trans-affirmative approach and its firm condemnation of non-vital sexual normalization operations on intersex children and any attempt to modify the sexual orientation or identity of the child. gender.

    A first meeting on March 26, 2024

    For this first year, the trans, intersex and non-binary program will be deployed around three symbolic dates: for the International Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31the Jinternational day of non-binary people on July 14 and the Jinternational day of intersex visibility on October 26.

    So the March 26, 2024the City of Geneva will open this program with a round table on the inclusion of trans people in public institutions. As a responsible employer, the City wishes to encourage reflection and the exchange of good practices to promote the recruitment, reception and continued employment of trans people, who are still widely discriminated against in the labor market.

    This first event will bring together experts in inclusion and respect for the rights of trans people at work and members of Geneva institutions in order to discuss their experiences and good practices, but also the difficulties encountered. What is the current legislation regarding the protection of trans people at work? What are the responsibilities of employers and what will be the impact of the new cantonal LED-Gender law in this matter? How can we implement good practices and enable the inclusion and respect of trans people in Geneva institutions? What tools are available to managers and HR staff? These will be the questions addressed in this exchange between the panelists and with the public.

    The event will take place at Anna and Jean-Gabriel Eynard Palace from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be opened by the Mayor of Geneva, Alfonso Gomez. To continue the discussion, the meeting will be followed by an aperitif lunch offered by the City.
