    Opening of work on the bus station pavilion – Place Dorcière | City of Geneva

    In a very dilapidated state, the bus station pavilion requires renovation work worthy of its public and its architectural qualities.

    Its development will make it possible to offer travelers a modern and welcoming place, integrated into its environment, and to improve the image of the district. The construction site will open on March 4, 2024.

    Temporary station

    Temporary operation of the station for the duration of the work will be ensured by the installation of a container sheltering two counters and a waiting room. Two public toilet cubicles will also be put in place.

    Complete renovation

    The development of this pavilion is at the center of the site’s concerns, as are the technical issues. The work will consist of:

    • complete sanitation of the building envelope;
    • consolidation of the supporting structure;
    • sanitation of technical installations;
    • creating access for people with reduced mobility (PRM);
    • extensions on either side of the existing building.

    The renovated pavilion will offer the public a modernized space, including a large waiting room, two counters, luggage lockers, administrative premises, a rest room for drivers, a snack bar, as well as Indoor toilets.

    Greening the roof

    The building offers the possibility, through its flat roof, of create a green roof. This project is thus aligned with the general objectives of the Strategic Greening Plan which plans to develop nature in the city and to promote biodiversity everywhere in public space, particularly in central, dense and highly mineralized districts, including on the roofs of public and private buildings.

    Layout of the place

    The second study credit concerns the competition and studies for the redevelopment of public spaces. THE redevelopment competition should be launched in 2025 following the study for the relocation of buses. To create a quality public space, the number of parking spaces provided for coaches will have to be significantly reduced. The future square will mainly be spread around the fountain which will also be rehabilitated.
