    ZIC: launch of a call for projects for the conversion of a wood shed | City of Geneva

    The City wishes to bring out innovative design solutions, in order to create production spaces intended for craft and creative professions. The winning project must also contribute to enliven the area and the neighborhood.

    The Charmilles industrial zone (ZIC) is the last industrial and artisanal zone belonging to the City of Genevaon municipal territory.

    Extending over more than 20,000m2She has welcomed around a hundred artisans and artists for many yearswhich make the ZIC an important center of creation and artisanal know-how, located in the center of Geneva.

    Since 2021, several large-scale projects, such as the collaborative manufacturing (MACO) or the artistic and cultural space The 6 Roofsoccupy vacant spaces temporarily made available by the municipality, to experiment and test innovative uses and offer local services in the Charmilles district. The mobile sawmill The Two Riversthe local business La Brasserie du Mât as well as associations Glitter And The Blue Bicycle have also recently been installed in the ZIC. The premises of La Bicyclette Bleue and Glitter are currently under construction and will soon open to the public.

    Conditions for the call for projects

    This new call for competition is intended for collectives (association, cooperative, federation, etc.), which must identify and propose solutions for the development of a central roof, through the installation of temporary and reversible modules (duration occupation of 7 years), which will constitute production spaces intended for craft and creative professions.

    The winning project must contribute to revitalizing the area and the activities must be complementary to those already on the site. The winning project should also create more links between the ZIC and the residents of the neighborhood.

    There preference will be given to projects which are part of a low carbon construction approachnotably through the reuse of materials and the use of biosourced materialsin accordance with the commitments made by the City in its Climate strategy.
