    Geneva celebrates press freedom and female press cartoonists | City of Geneva

    The Freedom Cartoonists Foundation and the City of Geneva invite you to celebrate press freedom and female press cartoonists through two events:

    May 3, 2024: Exceptional event with Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Prize winner

    On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, and the presentation of the 2024 International Press Cartoon Prize, the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation and the City of Geneva invite you to an exceptional event, in the presence of:

    • Shirin EbadiNobel Peace Prize winner 2003, mentor of Narges Mohammadi, current Nobel Peace Prize winner imprisoned in Tehran;
    • Christiane Amanpourstar journalist for CNN, member of the Foundation’s Advisory Board.

    In the program

    Introductions by:

    • Sami Kanaan, Administrative Advisor, Department of Culture and Digital Transition, City of Geneva
    • Marie-Laure Salles, Director, University Institute of Geneva
    • Patrick Chappatte, president and Marie Heuzé, vice-president, Freedom Cartoonists Foundation

    THE speech by Shirin Ebadi will be followed by a discussion on the place of women cartoonists in the world, led by Christiane Amanpour with:

    • Nadia Khiari, Tunisian designer, Willis de Tunis
    • Rachita Taneja, Indian designer, Sanitary Panels
    • Ann Telnaes, American editorial cartoonist, Washington Post

    The Freedom Cartoonists Foundation will then present the 2024 Kofi Annan Prize for Courage in Caricature.
