Breathe: an invitation to breathe together | City of Geneva

From May 16 to 26, 2024 as soon as night falls, the plain of Plainpalais will be the beating heart of Breathe but its soothing rhythm will extend across the city: The jet d’eau, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Rath museum, the Pâquis lighthouse, the World Health Organization (WHO) building and the Palais des Nations will light up in unison with the luminous dome, like so many invitations to slow down and take the time to breathe.

“The numerous demands to which we are subjected on a daily basis can have harmful effects on our health. Take our time, rethink our habits, Live in the moment allows us to ensure our well-being, but also to take care of our planet,” explains Alfonso Gomez.

A sensory experience, in the heart of the city, to reconnect

New installation of theGeneva artivist Dan AcherBreathe is a artistic experience which, beyond its visual beauty, reminds us of the importance of slowing down, of anchoring our lives in the present moment, of reconnecting with ourselves and the world around us.

At nightfall, residents will be able to observe a huge dome, emitting light at regular intervalsWe encouraging you to follow this rhythm to inhale and exhale. Five breaths per minute: this is the optimal rhythm that Breathe offers to guide us towards a state of relaxation and deep connection beyond our differences. Dan Acher elaborates: “I like the idea that an art installation can spread across the city in such an accessible way. Geneva, with its local and international dimensions, is the ideal city for the premiere of Breathe. In a world that seems more and more divided, it is an invitation to live a collective and unifying experience around shared breathing.

    Mindfulness accessible to everyone

Of the activities offered by minds Geneva – also take place on the plain to allow participants to learn more about the importance of mental health and practicing mindfulness or to discover several Geneva associations committed to the well-being of the population.

A round table in collaboration with theWorld Health Organization (WHO) will take place on Friday, May 24 between noon and two o’clock. Entitled “Others are fantastic”, it will deal with social bonds and the importance of connection to oneself, to others and to the world. For Dr. Andrea Pereira, director of minds. “It is a fundamental right of people to enjoy good mental health. Today, it is imperative to strengthen our understanding of mental health, to break the taboos and associated stigmas, and to promote individual, collective and also political actions aimed at supporting mental well-being.

Dr Mark Van Ommeren, head of the Mental Health Unit at the World Health Organization (WHO), adds: “Proposals for collaboration and local initiatives, such as that led by the City of Geneva, are vital to demonstrate the importance to be given to mental health in society.
