“Who is online?” – Discover the shared history of international Geneva | City of Geneva

Inspired by red phones formerly installed between the United States and the USSR, “Who’s online?” broadcasts a montage of extracts from speeches by personalities given in the 20th century in Geneva.

    The exhibition

“Who is online?” is based on a simple and original idea: allowing everyone to be online with a great historical figure and to listen to his voice on the telephone. You want to have Winston Churchill, Che Guevara, Gandhi or Eleanor Roosevelt on the line? Nothing could be simpler: pick up!

By listening in a sort of “intimacy” to these famous voices, visitors discover not only their voice, but also a moment in history and the role played by Geneva. The extracts from the speeches form a compilation of the highlights of international Geneva and confirm that our city is a privileged place for global diplomacy.

THE archives of international Geneva are the treasure of world diplomacy. Essential for understanding the history of multilateralism, they also offer an overview of the efforts undertaken in each era in favor of peace and human rights, recalling the importance of these values in our world today.

The photos, films, sound recordings which illustrate this history of international Geneva are precious sources which are still little exploited. This is the role of the platform, which publishes a selection of these audiovisual archives coming from RTS, international organizations, Geneva heritage institutions and also the public. By making these documents accessible to as many people as possible, has for over two years begun a new way of telling the history of international Geneva.
