Start of the renovation, transformation and extension project at the Liotard school | City of Geneva

    A necessary renovation

The building, located between rue Liotard and route de Meyrin, was built 50 years ago. It no longer meets the current needs and requirements of educational establishments. Furthermore, this school turns out to be the largest consumer of fossil energy in the City of Geneva, and its outdoor spaces are poorly developed and heavily tarmaced.

It’s the project “Clara” from the Geneva office Christian Dupraz Architecture Office which won first prize in the architecture competition organized by the City of Geneva in January 2021.

    Guarantee better school reception

The extension of the school will make it possible to welcome new students in an environment adapted and conducive to learning, and to offer school and extracurricular premises of sufficient quality and quantity.

Five additional teaching classes will thus be created, as well as a games room and four extracurricular rooms, one of which will have a surface area of 100 m2.

On the ground floor, a production kitchen allowing the preparation of 2,100 meals per day, supplying several schools, will be created as well asa school restaurant of 300m2. A characteristic architectural element of this school, the aula will be maintained and transformed into a multi-purpose room that can accommodate 200 people, with new openings providing natural light.

There rehabilitation of the 25m school pool, which will be carried out as part of this work, is essential. In fact, the three other neighborhood basins (Pâquis-Centre, Contamines and Chandieu) are today saturated. The gym and dojo will also be completely renovated.

The renovation and sanitation of the building will involve energetic transition including a reduction in heat requirements. A majority of heating and electricity needs will be covered by renewable energies.

THE Outdoor Facilities will be the subject of great care with reinforcement of the vegetation and a new playground.
