The civil registry welcomes you in renovated premises | City of Geneva

From birth to death, the Civil Status Service witnesses the life journey of the more than 200,000 citizens who reside in the city of Geneva. In particular, it records the major events which mark an existence such as marriage, partnership and the birth of children.

The renovation work carried out on the 2nd floor of the building at 37 rue de la Mairie allows for an expansion of the premises of the Civil Status Service which already occupied the ground floor and 1st floor. The official inauguration of these new spaces takes place on December 7, 2017in the presence of Rémy Pagani, Mayor of Geneva, and Esther Alder, Administrative Advisor.

The creation of these new reception areas was made possible thanks to the release of accommodation. The apartment has been renovated and its electrical installations completely revised, but its original plan has been preserved. In order to comply with the law on demolitions, transformations and renovations (LDTR) which requires compensating “square meter for square meter” the transformation of housing into offices, three rental apartments were created at rue de Jargonnant 4 and 6, at the place of administrative premises.

    Centralized quality services

The public will thus be better received in more spacious premises. And users may be received, in certain cases, in individual offices in order to preserve the confidentiality of the data. Finally, the paper registers will be kept in better conditions in the archive premises.

In return, the procedures previously carried out at theGeneva City Space

such as the change of address

ordering identity cards or obtaining a life certificate are now transferred to 37 rue de la Mairie which centralizes all services of the Civil Status Service. A grouping that avoids users having to move from one site to another in case, for example, they are missing a document. It also simplifies the IT and administrative operation of the service with a benefit for citizens.

Remember that many procedures of the Civil Status Service are now accessible online. For more information, please visit the page Marital status and life course
