    The new Eglantyne Jebb nursery opens its doors | City of Geneva

    On the Route de Frontenex, the Eglantyne Jebb crèche welcomes 27 children from August 19, 2024..

    In order to gradually reach its full capacity, the new nursery will be deployed in two stages over the coming years:

    • 16 additional places for children aged 2-3, at the start of the school year 2025;
    • 16 additional places for children aged 3-4, at the start of the school year 2026.

    Thus, the total supply will reach 59 places for children aged 0 to 4 years.

    Municipalization

    As part of the process of staged municipalization of childcare facilities of the City of Geneva, the crèche opened municipally. This early childhood governance reform recognizes preschool education as a public service mission, thus strengthening theequal opportunities between all children, and promoting a profession exercised by a large majority of women.

    Eglantyne Jebb, a pioneer

    This crèche is named after Eglantyne Jebb, author of the Geneva Declaration of 1924a text which greatly inspired the current Convention on the Rights of the Child, and founder of the organization Save the Children.

    Eglantyne Jebb, born in 1876, leaves England and crosses borders to help the children. She would end up dedicating her career to it.

    Giving your name to a crèche is a symbolic operation full of meaning. This makes it possible in particular to talk about children’s rights to those most affected from a very young age and to develop educational projects around this fundamental theme.

    The opening of the Eglantyne Jebb crèche completes the offer of placespreschool education and aims to meet the demand from families in the Eaux-Vives district.
