The Mayors Forum is organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) with the support of Global Cities Hub.
An innovative initiative, the Forum brings together mayors within the framework of a formal process of United Nations in Geneva to discuss the global challenges that concern them.
The Forum adopts declarations and sends recommendations to UN member states.
It promotes a new, more inclusive multilateralismwhich allows mayors to participate in global debates alongside States and to develop collective solutions which respond to citizens’ concerns.
Fourth Mayors Forum
The fourth Forum of Mayors will be held from September 30 to October 1, 2024 in Geneva. It will take place immediately after UN Future Summit.
It is called “Summit of cities of the future” and explore issues related to this summit that are relevant to cities.
The Forum of Mayors is an official body of the United Nations. It meets in Geneva. As an official UNECE meeting, the Forum is recorded and broadcast. What is the Mayors Forum?
In 2020the Member States of the UNECE decided to create a Forum of Mayors (FoM), thus recognizing the important role of cities and local authorities in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Global Cities Hub
THE Global Cities Hub continues to play a crucial role in strengthen the role of cities in the international cooperation and to make Geneva a city diplomacy center. This association under Swiss law, created with the support of the Confederation, the Canton and the City of Geneva, aims to play a role of facilitator between
- cities around the world,
- city networks,
- global governance entities present in Geneva.
The objective is to strengthen – within international Geneva – the place of cities which have an essential role to play in managing global challenges.
