    Discover your neighborhood – La Jonction | City of Geneva

    This day of exploration is much more than just a guided tour. Whether you are a long-time resident or a newcomer, this walk will allow you to see the Junction in a new light and know better this very lively neighborhood.

    The proposed walk will make you discover theremarkable evolution of the Junction, and the main points of interest.

    This exploration will be punctuated byinterventions people born in the neighborhood, representatives of the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarityofcultural entities andactive associations who will accompany you and answer your questions throughout the journey and will enrich your understanding of the Junction.

    A rich and varied history

    Originally, the Junction was a market gardening area located between the Rhône and the Arve. This agricultural past is still visible in the names of certain streets in the district, such as rue des Jardins or rue des Plantaporrêts (literally “leek planters”).

    The area was known as the “Garden of Geneva” and the market gardeners were nicknamed “plantaporrêts”. This rich history and varied has shaped the unique identity of the Junction, making it a dynamic neighborhoodmultifaceted, in the heart of Geneva.

    Discovering other neighborhoods

    As part of the Town Hall year, other discoveries neighborhood are proposed. An opportunity to create links, meet your neighbors and immerse yourself in the spirit of the neighborhoods Pâquis, Eaux-Vives and Acacias.

    Dates of the next Neighborhood Discoveries:

    • Pâquis: Saturday October 19, 2024
    • Whitewater: Saturday January 18, 2025
    • Acacias: Saturday February 8, 2025.
