End of season for public misters in Geneva: a positive outcome | City of Geneva

In order to fight against heat islands and to encourage the use of the public domain even when it is very hot, the City of Geneva tested misting devices for the first time this summer.

Made up of a tubular structure with nozzles and covered with a canvas, these devices were deployed, from June to September 2024, on seven locations exposed to the sun and very popular with the public.

This deployment in the different districts of the city has made it possible to improve the well-being of residents, both young and old. These devices also allowed the spontaneous sharing of a fun experience under the mist and provided welcome refreshment during the summer period.

    Positive assessment

During its dismantling, the Rotonde des Pâquis system recorded more than 13,000 mist activations. This data demonstrates the appreciation and usefulness of the installation for the population of Geneva. In terms of water consumption, the devices have been designed to optimize the use of resources while maximizing cooling efficiency.

This initiative is part of the Climate strategyaiming to adapt public spaces to climate challenges.

Faced with the positive reception of this first experience, the City of Geneva is pleased to announce that the experiment will be repeated during the summer of 2025.
