The Sports Festival is back | City of Geneva

Fencing, rugby, viet vo dao, padel, gymnastics and even horse riding in particular are making their debut among the sports present at Parc des Bastions and in the Old Town.

On the map, a badminton court in front of the Reformers’ Wall and another padel or tchoukball court facing Uni Bastions. Here and there, a cycling path at the entrance to the Bastions and archery on the Promenade de la Treille. Elsewhere, a boxing ring in front of the cannons of the Old Arsenal. This is only a small part of the scenery that Genevans are expected to discover on September 14 and 15, on the occasion of the Sports Festival. With nine new disciplines presentthe event broadens its scope of sports promotion while remaining easily accessible to all audiences and, above all, completely free.

Organized by theGeneva Sports AssociationTHE cantonal sports service and the Sports department of the City of Genevathere Sports festival is intended to be a meeting where every Genevan sees the diversity of sports existing in Geneva and where the population comes together thanks to sport. Solo, with family or friends, there is something for everyone, whether to try a discipline, attend the planned demonstrations or even chat with professional athletes and representatives of the 42 participating associations.

“The Sports Festival allows the sporting world to come and meet the general public outside the stadiums or its usual locations, in a friendly atmosphere, recall Thierry ApothélozState Councilor responsible for social cohesion, and Marie Barbey-Chpuisadministrative advisor in charge of the municipal department of security and sports. This responds to our wish to encourage everyone to take part in sport and promotes support for sports clubs, which can attract a new audience.”

Euro 2025 and inclusion in the program

Among the new features this year, disciplines such as horse riding, cycling or fencing will be discovered or rediscovered, a stand dedicated toWomen’s Euro football in 2025 will provide information and activities on this major event which will take place in Switzerland and Geneva next summer. Food trucks will offer food and drinks.

A space promotingaccessibility of clubs and the‘inclusion is on the program, just as sports associations have been made aware of the inclusion and potential for adaptation of each discipline to accommodate practitioners with specific needs. For the visually impaired, for example, the Navilens system was deployed on each stand, including food trucks, to provide useful information. Volunteers have also been trained to support those affected.

    Two days for classes

THE September 12 and 13the Sports Festival will be aimed at students from 5P to 8P. In this context, approximately 2000 children will be able to visit the stands and learn about sporting activities. These two days, organized with the support of the Department of Public Education, Training and Youth, will allow the 104 registered classes to each take a particular interest in two disciplines.
“Certain disciplines are more unknown to the general public, and it is interesting for children to learn about sports which are offered all year round by their respective associations,” underline Thierry Apothéloz and Marie Barbey-Chpuis.
