    A challenge for a sustainable future: Geneva launches ‘My Carbon Challenge’ in November! | City of Geneva

    From November 12 to December 9Impact Hub Geneva, in partnership with the City and the Republic and canton of Geneva, invites the population to participate has “My Carbon Challenge”a month ofinitiatives aimed at encouraging those who live in Geneva to reduce their carbon footprint.

    This challenge, accessible to all, is part of the overall decarbonization efforts set by the Climate strategy of the City of GenevaTHE Cantonal climate plan and the Swiss climate strategywhich aim at reduction of emissions by 60% by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

    A challenge organized by Impact Hub to mobilize the community

    As a leading player in social and environmental innovation, Impact Hub Geneva is at the initiative of this pilot projectdesigned to allow each person who participates to measure your carbon footprint thanks to the “Our Climate Gestures” calculator andact concretely through accessible and local initiatives.

    “Our Climate Actions” Calculator

    This calculator was launched in 2023 by the canton of Geneva, the City of Geneva and 2050Today to identify activities having the highest impact on the climate and encourage appropriate changes in individual behavior.

    A one-month challenge around five themes

    For a month, “My Carbon Challenge” will allow residents of Geneva to engage around five essential themes:

    • energy and housing,
    • mobility,
    • food,
    • consumption,
    • biodiversity.

    Impact Hub Geneva offers a unique framework ofaccompaniment and support for those who participate.

    Throughout the month of November, workshopsof the events and interactive tools will allow citizens to better understand their carbon footprint and adopt appropriate actions.

    The goal is clear: to inspire long-term behavioral change to achieve Geneva’s climate goals.

    With the support of experts and resources available online, people who take up “My Carbon Challenge” will be guided in the implementation of sustainable practices in their daily lives.

    Local support and reach

    The initiative benefits from the support of the Canton and the City of Geneva, which fully integrate “Mon DéfiCarbone” and the “Our Climate Gestures” calculator in their respective strategies for decarbonization.

    While the cities only represent 3% of the earth’s surfacethey are responsible for 70% of global carbon emissions. This challenge constitutes a local response to a global problemwhile reaffirming the key role of Geneva in the fight against climate change. This project also reflects Geneva’s commitment to achieving its climate goals and inspiring other Swiss cities to follow suit.
