    Nansen Distinction 2024 for refugees | City of Geneva

    Created in 1954, the UNHCR Nansen distinction for refugees pays tribute to individuals, groups or organizations whose action goes well beyond their professional obligations to protect refugees, displaced or stateless people. It is fully in line with the values ​​held by the City of Geneva.

    This year, five women are honored by this distinction awarded by the UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency.

    The other four women – a Burkinabè activist, a Syrian social entrepreneur, a Sudanese volunteer aid worker and a Nepalese campaigner to end statelessness – were named regional winners.
