The Plainpalais-Acacias district: a new perimeter
The device of night correspondents (CN) of the City of Geneva was implemented in October 2021 in the pilot perimeter Ouches – Concorde – Franchises – Servette – Charmilles – St-Jean.
Following the results very satisfyingA second device was deployed in the Pâquis-Grottes – St Gervais sector.
A third sector was chosen in 2024, namely Plainpalais – Junction – Acaciasfollowing a broad consultation procedure with partners and taking into account the needs and expectations of the population of the neighborhoods concerned. Night correspondents ensure active monitoring in the sector Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., in all weathers and all year round.

Night correspondents in the field
The team is made up of a system manager, six part-time people and an auxiliary person. In order to have a detailed knowledge of their sector and be easily identifiable, the CN travel on foot, in teams of two or three, wearing a jacket stamped “Night Correspondent”.
Night correspondents walk the streets and parks to meet residents and users of public spaces. Their presence on the ground contributes to ease tensions between different population groups, regulate the use of public space and develop a nocturnal preventionparticularly among young people. It aims to reduce the feeling of insecurity, to reduce THE noise pollutionTHE incivility and the street harassmentbut also to to favor contacts between people and ensure social monitoring.
NCs collaborate with others institutional and associative partners. The distribution of prevention messages or various information is also carried out during the tours.
When to call on night correspondents?
- A problem of incivility complicates the life of a neighborhood, a street or a building
- A neighbor makes excessive noise and prevents you from sleeping
- You see a destitute person, homeless, in difficulty
- You are not reassured and would like to be accompanied at night, from one point to another in the neighborhood.
