The Red Nail was symbolically planted in front of the Ancien Manège, a building completely rehabilitated and renovated by the City of Geneva and which currently houses the Ride in the City.
Carousel in Town (Old Carousel)
Built in 1829 and transformed into a garage in the 1950s, the Ancien Manège was renovated from 2018 to 2021 to accommodate activities for families and children:
- crib,
- neighborhood house,
- school restaurant,
- game library.
The project reuses existing structural and constructive elements, combined with selected demolitions and minimal additions. It uses the spatial and atmospheric qualities of the different parts of the building, while preserving its heritage qualities.
Red Nail 2024
A red metal nail, measuring 1m70, is the emblem of the actions of promotion of French-speaking heritage of the Swiss Heritage association. During his route, he stops at heritage places, sometimes little-known or difficult to access, and a visit open to the public is organized.
The 2024 theme is that of “Building culture, climate and biodiversity”. Eleven stops are offered throughout French-speaking Switzerland. The idea consists of symbolically planting the red nail in the immediate vicinity of a heritage place which is – or should be – the subject of particular development.
