Heating remotely at the junction – 60 buildings heated thanks to Léman water | City of Geneva

The network of Remote heating “Cadéco Junction” feeds 31 municipal buildings and 28 state buildings in renewable energy.

It embodies a major advance towards the energy transition, because it has the particularity of producing only heat with Lake Geneva water and heat pumps.

A Station located at the Quai du Sousjet draws water from the Rhônethen operates its thermal energy thanks to high temperature heat pumps. Thanks to six kilometers of underground pipes, this network provides heat distribution that is both sustainable and efficient.

The deployment of this Cadéco Junction remote heating network is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the State, the City of Geneva and the industrial services of Geneva (SIG) Since 2021.

Buildings affected by heating remotely at the junction

To date, 109 buildings in the Junction district, including 59 belonging to the city and the state, are part of the Cadéco Junction remote heating network. This heat, produced with Léman water and heat pumps, covers 75% of heating needs. It is supplemented by a gas intake.

THE 31 buildings already connected by the city of Geneva Include:

• The Marie Goegg-Pouchin crèche,
• Three primary schools (PlantaPorts, Junction and onlyjet),
• three administrative buildings,
• 24 Housing buildings, covering the entire city-Junction perimeter.

Of the 28 buildings belonging to the State of Geneva, we note the presence of BFM, the cantonal finance administration and the business school Nicolas Bouvier and the University of Geneva Sciences 2.

Next developments in remote heating at the junction

In 2025, ten additional buildingsincluding the fire and rescue service (SIS) and the factory will join this network. The buildings connected to the remote heating Cadeco junction in 2025 will allow Avoid emissions of 10,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (Co₂). It is the equivalent of the annual emissions of 1060 Genevans and Genevans.
