The alliance of the municipalities deplores the rejection of the motion on the mandate of the post to the Council of States | City of Geneva

The alliance is very disappointed with the rejection of the Motion 24.3816 “Clarifying the universal service mandate and the post office of La Poste before any new restructuring or new dismantling”, but does not give up. We warmly thank the advisers to states of all the political edges that supported us.

Our mobilization has shown that the vast majority of the population – all the edges combined – supports us and wants us to fight. Whatever the some supporters of modernity think at all costs, defending social ties and local jobs is a current fight.

The alliance remains mobilized and united for the future. We will jointly defend each post threatened and encourage our populations to mobilize. We will write to the new CEO of La Poste to ask him for a meeting in order to explain the real impact of closures for our villages and our neighborhoods.

We very much hope that it will be more open and transparent than the post office has been so far. We also take the word the opponents of the motion when they have enjoined the post office not to leave whole regions without postal service or to aim for a transformation “in the Danish”.

The alliance also hopes that the implementation of The Cantonal Initiative of the Republic and canton of Jura 17.314 “Post offices. Improving the quality of the network and strengthening the role of municipal authorities in territorial distribution ”will strengthen the role of municipalities. Until now, La Poste has been able to put them before the fait accompli and lead them by boat by delivering any figure or argument supported. The restructuring of the postal network must take place in consultation with local actors and within the framework of serious, objective and good faith consultations.
