Organized jointly by the sports department of the City of Geneva and the cantonal office of culture and sportthe Geneva Sports Night rewards the Geneva athletes and teams who have won a title or reached the highest step of a national and/or international podium during the past year.
During the evening, which was held at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, eight prizes were awarded for as many categories.
A honorary diploma was also given to all Geneva sportsmen and women who became Swiss champions this year. In total, in 2023, more than 731 Swiss champion titles (individual and team) have been won by Geneva athletes in all sports and age categories.
Multitude of medals and world titles
The year 2023 was full of events. “Waited for so many years, the title of champion won by the GSHC truly aroused a joy rarely seen in Geneva, recalled Thierry Apothéloz, State Councilor in charge of sport. But to this tremendous success are added a multitude of medals and world titles that our athletes have won during this resolutely prosperous year. Geneva now has its eyes fixed on Paris!”
“This is a great vintage for Geneva sport, the number of Swiss champion titles obtained this year is a clear increase compared to 2022 and 2021,” underlines Marie Barbey-Chpuis, administrative advisor in charge of sports in the City of Geneva. “We will continue to support these athletes, in particular through the opening of new sports infrastructure and modernization of other facilities“.
THE winners and winners of the Geneva Sports Night 2023 are:
- Sportswoman of the year: Célia Dupré – rowing
- Sportsman of the year: Robert Mayer – ice Hockey
- Female Hope of the Year: Marie Mazuay – veil
- Male Hopeful of the Year: Loïc Dubois – ski mountaineering
- Women’s Team of the Year: ZZ Lancy – Table tennis
- Men’s Team of the Year: Genève-Servette Hockey Club – ice Hockey
- Handisport Foundation Prize: Celine van Till – para-cycling
- Special jury prize: Sophie Lavaud1st Swiss and 3rd woman in the world to climb the fourteen highest peaks on the planet.
During this evening broadcast live on Léman bleu, a tribute was paid to Damien Tollardoformer rowing athlete and former member of Team Geneva.
The artistic performances of pianist Kamil Osmanov, rapper Double Zed and dancers Mams and Chloé Fayolle brought beautiful poetry to this celebration of Geneva sport.
