Global Refugee Forum: Geneva serving human rights | City of Geneva

The largest international meeting on refugee issues, the Global Refugee Foruman event organized every four years, takes place in Geneva from December 13 to 15, 2023. It aims to promote the implementation of the objectives defined in the Global Compact on Refugees (relieving pressure on host countries, strengthening the autonomy of refugees, access to solutions offered by third countries and improving living conditions in the countries of origin).

On this occasion, the City of Geneva, with other local actors, would like to highlight the importance of urban diplomacy and the opportunities to provide, at a more local level, solutions to problems linked to migration and to refugees. The Administrative Council will thus be present at several meetings and ceremonies throughout this Forum, including the Nansen Prize for Refugees and mayoral panels intended to identify local solutions to address this global problem.

    Public awareness actions

The City of Geneva also supports several actions to raise awareness among the population, including the presence of the UNHCR at Christmas at the Quaywhere the Inside Out project by artist JRwhich is offering a photo installation on December 13 and 14 in which everyone can participate on the Treille wall, intended to show the diversity of the Geneva population.

The Administrative Council’s commitment to human rights was also demonstrated throughout the year, notably through support for the organization of open days at Palais Wilson last September, or that of concert for human rights with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, on December 10 at the Alhambra.
