The baths consist of two basins, each measuring 10 meters wide by 27 meters long. The first, without a bottom, the second, with a bottom of approximately 1.40 meters, is intended more particularly for children. Swimming will be supervised by lifeguards.
Access to the baths will be paid but at a modest price (free up to 6 years old, CHF 1.- from 6 years old to 16 years old, CHF 2.- from 16 years old). In the morning, water lines will be installed in the first pool for swimmers.
In front of this swimming area a refreshment bar (held by the Jazz sur la Plage Association) and its two terraces have been installed. There are also changing rooms, showers, shaded areas, as well as a rest area.
Project implementation
The project was completed in record time since the credit of 2.16 million necessary for the creation of these temporary installations (5 years) was voted by the Municipal Council on November 28, 2023.
“The collaboration between municipal and cantonal services was particularly effective,” underlines Marie Barbey-Chpuis, Administrative Advisor in charge of the Department of Security and Sports (DSSP). “We are very happy to be able to offer the population and tourists this new swimming area with a sumptuous view of the Jet d’eau, it’s a bit like swimming in a postcard. This will certainly strengthen the attractiveness of the harbor and Geneva.
“This new installation is consistent with the guiding image of the harbor. This site will integrate the Renaturation project carried out by OCEau in the Pier sector and the future Harbor Security Center hosting the police navigation center and the harbor master’s office. A new Center meeting standards and adapted to current issues and needs, to improve the services provided to the population and the service to the public.
This first step confirms the common desire of the Canton and the City of Geneva to work together and enhance the harbor site” underlines Carole-Anne KastState Councilor in charge of the Department of Institutions and Digital Affairs (DIN).
