2024 Scholarship Winners
Plastic arts: Maëva Weissen
The jury unanimously chose the proposal of Maëva Weissen for the plastic and technical quality of its installation and the complementarity of the various mediums offered (video, textile, text, sound).
This committed work addresses contemporary societal issues essential (ecology, decolonialism, feminism). His proposal celebrates the city of Onex, an often invisible territory and the people who inhabit it.
Applied arts: Thomas Clément
The jury unanimously chose the proposal of Thomas Clement for the richness of its proposals inspired by everyday life translated by a vocabulary tinged with humor, empathy, sensitivity as well as an ability to embrace chance encounters. He also highlights the maturity of work and the generosity towards the public to whom he gives access to his creative process by occupying the premises throughout the exhibition.
Support for young creation
The Berthoud, Lissignol-Chevalier and Galland Stock Exchanges (BLCG) awarded since 1955 by the City of Geneva are an important milestone in its system for encourage young artists.
On the basis of a project presented in the spring to a jury of experts, artists are invited to participate in a collective exhibition at the Geneva Contemporary Art Centerand two of them will be distinguished by scholarships of one value of CHF 10,000.- each, thus offering laureates the opportunity to develop personal research or pursue studies.
The jury’s decision is made public during the opening of the collective exhibition of the 2024 nominees. This ceremony is also an opportunity for the City of Geneva to award two more scholarships in the field of visual arts: Grant for artist over 35 years old to loreDselys and Grant for the realization of a documentary photographic project to Martin Widmer, both awarded in spring 2024 and formally announced at this event.
