    A Geneva pantheon? Stories and memories of the Cemetery of the Kings | City of Geneva

    Highlight one of the little-known gems of Geneva heritage: this is the objective of this study day proposed by the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarityin association with the House of HistoryTHE November 1 At Eynard Palace.

    THE cemetery of the Kings, real museum open-air, houses the tombs of many personalities who have marked the history of Geneva. It’s a historic cemetery full of artistic and memorial treasures. This study daythe result of a collaboration between the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity and the House of History, aims to explore and share the wealth of this place with the general public. Particular attention will be paid to female figuresoften forgotten in traditional historical accounts.

    A multidisciplinary approach

    To carry out this project, a team of experts was formed, bringing together historians, artists and heritage specialists. Their mission: to decipher the evolution of the cemetery over the centuries and analyze the funerary art present in its monuments.

    This initiative is not limited to a simple tribute to the missing. It aims to create a reflection broader on contemporary cultural, social and political issues. By bringing these tombstones back to life, Geneva hopes not only to preserve its history, but also nourish collective reflection on our human condition and our citizen engagement.

    Two-part event

    This event, organized by the funeral servicestakes place in two-stroke:

    • Opening night: Thursday October 31 2024, from 6 p.m., at the Palais Eynard, upon registration.
    • Study day: Friday November 1st 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Palais Eynard, upon registration.
