    Geneva dresses in orange to raise public awareness about the elimination of gender-based and sexual violence | City of Geneva

    According to WHO estimates, nearlyone in three women in the world is exposed during his life to physical or sexual violencemost often within the couple, without even taking into account psychological violence, harassment online, in public spaces or even in the workplace, which women are also widely confronted with.

    Orange lighting

    In order to draw attention to this alarming situation, several buildings will be illuminated in orange, from November 23 to December 10:

    • the Anna and Jean-Gabriel Eynard Palace,
    • the Rath Museum,
    • the Grand Théâtre,
    • the Pâquis Lighthouse,
    • the Breeze statue.

    THE Water jet will join the operation using GIS on the evening of December 10.

    This lighting operation is part of the support provided by the City of Geneva to the UN campaign “ALL UNITED! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls!”, which takes place from November 25date of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against WomenAt December 10date of Human Rights Day.

    Lanterns for victims of femicide

    In the same spirit of solidarity and awareness of the urgency of eliminating all gender-based violence, a ceremonyorganized by the three Soroptimist International clubs of Greater Geneva and the Zonta International Grand-Geneva and Terre Sainte club, will take place this Sunday November 24 at 5 p.m. at the Bains des Pâquis.

    Will be present in particular:

    • Mr. Alfonso Gomez, Administrative Councilor of the City of Geneva,
    • Ms. Nathalie Fontanet, President of the Council of State,
    • Ms. Sophie Calltrop, Director of the UN Women Geneva Office and Head of Humanitarian Action.

    Of the orange colored lanternsone for each femicide perpetrated in 2024 in Switzerland, will be lit and put into the water in memory of the victims. There are 18 at the time of writing this press release, not counting the too many attempts from which other women have escaped.
