Creative imprints in the heart of the City | City of Geneva

The publication in 2017 of a first study on the weight of the cultural and creative economy revealed thepreponderant importance of cultural and creative industries within the city. These produce effects and generate externalities which can be measured both in terms of economic impacts only in terms of quality of life, social connections, well-being and health or innovation. Culture therefore creates values.

In continuation of this approach and in order to plan new insights into this sectorTHE Department of Culture and Digital Transition (DCTN) since 2022, has continued a collaboration with the Zurich Center for Creatives Economies (ZCCE), research center of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). The results of their work feed the City of Geneva, particularly within the framework of its economic and land-use planning policy.

THE symposium organized on April 25, 2023 at the Comédie de Genève constitutes the first step of a prospective approach which led to the publication of a new study written by Frédéric Martel and Roman Page, with the participation of Christoph Weckerle from ZCCE. The program of this day of dialogue and reflection made it possible to address community engagement, the societal impacts of culture, network issues and urban development.
