When the COVID-19 pandemic spread widely global economy, creating sudden vulnerability for businesses and jobs, the Administrative Council responded by providing immediate support to local commerce.
“L’attractiveness of the City of Geneva in economic matters is undeniable, but nothing is ever acquired. We must take care of the assets available to our municipal territory, in particular by helping to maintain optimal framework conditions. Safety, health, mobility, early childhood, cultural and sporting offerings, the levers are multiple and all contribute to this objective”, indicates Marie Barbey-Chpuis.
There economic strategy of the City of Geneva is part of a logic of complementarity with the economic policies carried out in federal and cantonal levels. It sets a course for the action of the Administrative Council in economic matters by pointing out its means of action.
“We let us defend an economic strategy combining sustainability, social justice and job creation, for a Geneva that takes into account the needs of the entire population. Businesses have a central role to play in the ecological transition, which will influence mobility, urban planning, building renovation and the consumption of goods and services. We must activate the levers at our disposal to support this transition,” explains Alfonso Gomez.
The activation of these levers aims to promote the development of Geneva as an attractive, sustainable and innovative city; a city that takes into account the economic and social well-being of its entire population; a city that positions itself as an innovative economic hub and in which the businesses have the necessary framework conditions to prosper and generate employmentthus concretizing the commitment made by the Administrative Council in its legislative program.
