La Banquise is back, with its panoramic saunas and its now famous “axe throwing” | City of Geneva

“Before the installation of the future public baths scheduled for this summer in the same location, The ice provides high-quality entertainment ensuring the bay area continues to thrive, even in winter. I am pleased that this project, initiated in 2023 during my year as Mayor, has returned in 2024,” states Executive Councilor of the City of Geneva, Marie Barbey-Chappelles, who is responsible for the Department of Security and Sport.

“To meet the demand, we have increased the number of saunas available,” the magistrate continues.

The Ice Pack is a fun winter sports area located on the Eaux-Vives merchant shipping wharf, close to the pier leading to the Jet d’eau. Like the activities on offer at la Canopée during the summer, La Banquise offers local residents the chance to meet up and do the most of sporting and well-being activities throughout the winter.

The ice floe included three separate areas: a sports zone, a well-being zone and a refreshments area.

    Well-being zone

New in 2024: this year, the well-being zone at La Banquise boasts three saunas for 4 people (instead of two saunas last year). Users are required to wear a swimsuit or a towel. The site also includes a relaxation yurt, showers using lake water and changing cubicles. The saunas are heated by means of a wood fire.

Reservations can be made via the City of Geneva website: www.geneve.ch/banquise

Visitors can discover the sport of ax throwing (supervised) during a 5-10-minute session, depending on the number of people and the waiting time, or try their hand at mattcurling.
