Venezuela: ICRC delegation in Caracas to cover Caribbean countries from 2024

Caracas (ICRC) – From 1 January 2024, the ICRC’s regional delegation for Venezuela, Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, and Trinidad and Tobago is also covering the ICRC’s activities in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), except Haiti.

This change comes as a result of measures for 2024 to optimize resources, improve organizational efficiency, and preserve operations on behalf of those affected by violence who are most vulnerable.

Previously the ICRC’s humanitarian activities in these countries were coordinated by the delegation in Panama. The activities in Panama are henceforth covered by the ICRC’s regional delegation in Mexico, and the ICRC’s mission in Haiti is becoming a new delegation, to respond to the growing humanitarian needs in the country.

In Venezuela in 2024, the ICRC will continue fulfilling its humanitarian mission of protecting and assisting the people most affected by armed violence, working hand in hand with communities, the Venezuelan Red Cross, the authorities and other organizations. In the Caribbean countries, the ICRC will continue promoting international humanitarian law and other applicable international laws, together with its partners in the wider International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

    About the ICRC
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral, impartial and independent organization with an exclusively humanitarian mandate that stems from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. It helps people around the world affected by armed conflict and other violence, doing everything it can to protect their lives and dignity and to relieve their suffering, often alongside its Red Cross and Red Crescent partners.
