The OSR festival at Geneva-Plage | City of Geneva

Symphony and the lapping of the water

On the program of these three days of open-air concerts organized by the Orchestra of French-speaking Switzerland: a symphonic evening on Thursdayat Hitchcock cinema-concert special on Friday and a jazz evening in tribute to Ella Fitzgerald on Saturday.

Classic evening – Thursday 17 August

The festival opens on the lake shore just as the sun is setting, with a grandiose symphonic programme. The orchestra will perform some of the most famous classic “hits”, led by Lucie Leguay and with the violinist Inmo Yang. The Slavic and Russian worlds are on the program of this opening night: “In the steppes of Central Asia” by Alexander Borodin“Zigeunerweisen” by Pablo de Sarasata“Slavonic Dances” by Antonin Dvorak“Gypsy” by Maurice Ravel and “Carmen” by Georges Bizet.

Cinema evening – Friday 18 August

Discover, or rediscover, the film “Vertigo” (1958 – original version with French subtitles) by Alfred Hitchcock, with the original soundtrack by Bernard Herrmann performed live by the OSR, under the direction of Ernst Van Tiel. From the prelude, the music begins to spiral like the patterns of the opening credits drawn by Saul Bass. Comprising daydreams and nightmares, Herrmann invents a unique urban Gothic style. Sivers guaranteed.

Jazz evening – Saturday August 19

The OSR will pay tribute to the legendary jazz diva, Ella Fitzgerald, with “A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald”an original musical project revisiting the singer’s repertoire, exclusively arranged for the orchestra by the composer Alexander Mastrangelo and performed by the singer Lucy Woodward.
